Check if your summer house is treated or untreated first – untreated wood will need to be primed and painted before you start using it. Even if you're using dip-treated or pressure-treated timber, giving it a coat of paint provides extra protection against harsh weather, and is a great way of personalising your shed! Do you need planning permission for a summerhouse shed?

As long as your shed fits within the permitted development criteria, you're all set. Just remember, it shouldn't take up more than half of your garden space, shouldn't exceed 2.5m in height, and shouldn't be intended for accommodation.
