The gladiolus is an easy-to-grow flower, especially valued for use in floral arrangements. Gladioli produce tall spikes of large blossoms in a rainbow of colours, very suitable in the back of the border where the tall flowers complement bushier plants. For the best effect, plant in clusters of five or more. Gladiolus need water during their growing period, and mulching with peat or compost will help conserve moisture. Staking is usually necessary.
