Dahlias are invaluable for the summer border, in patio containers or as cut flowers, flowering until the first frosts. Remove dead flower heads. One dahlia tuber will produce hundreds of flowers. Soil requirements: Any garden soil with a good supply of organic matter. Increase organic matter by adding farmyard manure or garden compost to your soil. Digging the soil before planting is recommended. Plant dahlia tubers with the single stem facing upwards and the bundle of roots facing downwards. Keep plants well watered during growth and remove faded flowers. Pinch out growing tips once plants reach a height of 40 cm/16 inches to encourage branching. Height: 36 inches/90cm
